Society: Be yourself
Society: No not like that
I used to be obsessed with celebrity, people and fitness magazines. To me, that was what society made me to believe was ideal. If I couldn’t compare then I was less than, but of course no one can compare. The models and celebrities themselves can’t even compare because airbrushing and technology creates a false reality. But that’s exactly what society wants. If you feel poorly about yourself then you are more likely to buy products endorsed and labeled to improve your appearance. You “think” this will correlate with making you happier, prettier, more popular… But oh, this couldn’t be more wrong. I don’t read magazines anymore besides ones such as Psychology Today and I hardly watch TV, and I can’t tell you how much happier I became effortlessly. Society literally feeds, survives and makes money off of insecurities. It’s not you who is wrong. It is society who is flawed. So be yourself. Period. Done. End of story. ~Britt
