SOCIAL MEDIA CAUTION & MY LINKS

In my opinion, please be extremely cautious when you decide to follow, subscribe to, “like,” or add on social media sites. Unfortunately technology is so vastly advanced now that it is all too easy for images to be photo-shopped and altered beyond what is real. It is also equally as easy to portray an image of a “perfect” life by choosing to write and selectively post only certain updates. Social media has made it easy to hide behind a false image and identity and sometimes this can influence people including you both consciously and subconsciously. Either way it is toxic and can slowly make you feel less worthy in comparison to others’ fake lives.

Please understand that this does not apply to everyone and there are many positive, real and inspiring people and accounts out there. I just want to make sure you do your homework before you decide to allow someone into your cognitive space. And if need be, sometimes a social media deleting spree can be one of the most liberating things you can do for yourself! Do not be ashamed for setting healthy boundaries. This is not about hurting others’ feelings; this is about your mental health, happiness and future. It took me a long time to figure this out and for many years I stayed friends with people who were still “sick” because I felt obligated to do so even though it was triggering for me at the time.

If you notice, I don’t follow many people on all my social media accounts and this is why. I’d much rather devote my time to personal relationships than spend hours on the Internet. This does not mean I care any less about any one of you. This simply means that I choose to keep only those who are personally close or contribute a very uplifting presence in my circles. Thank you for understanding and I hope you can take your power and choose to do the same for yourselves. ~Britt
