Can there be too much of a good thing? I’m easily overwhelmed, but not always the way you might think. Often the words overwhelm and stress are used interchangeably, and with a negative connotation. However, stress and overwhelm live on the other side of the spectrum too. Both the positives and negatives serve a purpose.

Personally, I find I have to be more aware of when I get positively overwhelmed because it isn’t as obvious. For example, I’ve been scrolling through social media much more than usual. There’s a lot of heartbreaking and scary news being put out 24/7. But that’s only one side of the story. There’s also numerous positive things being shared. Ironically, this is where I struggle. My brain will often get SO excited and inspired by people, thoughts, and ideas, that I begin to feel discouraged because I can’t keep up with them all. My brain shuts down and freezes. 

Too much good can backfire. You can read 100 self-help books. You can browse through 100 motivational captions. You can listen to podcasts, pin delicious recipes, or watch YouTube tutorials, but what about YOUR voice? If you spend too much time listening to others, no matter how great they are, you risk losing your individuality and opinion.

So, no I haven’t started a podcast, learned a new language, or perfected my drawing skills. But I’ve been working on small things I’ve always neglected, like being ok with crying for no reason, challenging my anxious thoughts, and rekindling my love for hiking. And I’m realizing these seemingly insignificant things have a big impact on my wellbeing.
